‘changing places’ facility
‘Changing Places’ Facility in the Fort William Campus Building
In 2015 West Highland College UHI invested in a ‘Changing Place’s assisted accessible toilet, in our main building on the Fort William campus.
It is the first such facility in Fort William.
The Changing Places toilet is primarily for College students and staff but is also available to be used by the many visitors to the college.
The changing places room gives more space and appropriate equipment for students/staff/visitors who need the help of a carer to undertake their personal hygiene. The Changing Places facility goes beyond a conventional wheelchair-accessible toilet in that it incorporates the additional assistive technology of a hoist, privacy screen, height adjustable adult-sized changing bench and shower.
To meet the needs of our student, staff and visitors, West Highland College UHI wanted to ensure all care was taken to ensure that any person can have toilet facilities available to them.
A Changing Places toilet is now ‘desirable’ under Part M and Section 4.2 of the Technical Handbook (Scotland) of the Building Regulations and BS8300:2009 for all new build and refurbishment projects involving buildings to which members of the public have access.
Access to the changing places facility is by radar key
Please contact the Customer Services desk for access to this facility if you do not possess a radar key or for details of changes to opening hours. firstname.lastname@example.org
