Mallaig

about this college centre

mallaig centreIn 2008 Mallaig Learning Centre merged with Mallaig Marine Centre to form the unique partnership of Mallaig learning centre & Marine Training centre.

As a community focused college, we are here to supply courses at all levels and of most interest and relevance to our local population. We also welcome students from afar. Furthermore, we are acutely conscious of the weather dependent industries, remoteness and logistical barriers that are part of our geography and society and endeavour to be as flexible and accommodating as possible in our delivery, particularly with marine based courses.

Our marine trainers are, we believe, the best around. All are currently employed in maritime industries and include a RNLI trainer, Merchant Navy captain and Master Mariner as well as ex fishing skippers who are happy to pass on generations of inherited knowledge and experience alongside the RYA syllabus.

Student Profiles (Maritime Skills)

Angus MacVarish

"I chose maritime skills as it was highly recommended by a friend of mine, and as I was always interested in the maritime sector, it seemed the obvious choice. I didn’t know quite know what to expect on the first day, but I was blown away by the curriculum, dedication and knowledge of the lecturers and college centre manager. With the qualifications you achieve, and the vast amount of information you will learn, this is an opportunity not to be missed."

Martin Kenning

"This course is a great way of preparing both for a job at sea or further learning in the form of a cadetship. Whichever path you choose this is a great course with highly qualified tutors who can guide you in the right direction.”

AAiden Ingram

I took this course hoping it would point me in the right direction for my career. The course has been highly enjoyable and has seemed to pass very quickly. I have gained many certificates which were good fun to earn. The students and tutors here are great people and make this course as good as it is. I would highly recommend to any person who wants a sea-based job to take this course!
