new buildPortree is home to a brand new extended and refurbished college centre on Struan Road. Opened in September 2013 this site is now home to a range of new full-time courses see here for more details.

At Portree’s College Centre you can expect to find a friendly and cheery welcome to help you with your learning needs. We offer a variety of flexible learning environments and access to a wide range of courses, taught locally and at a distance. The modern and comfortable College Centre is located on Struan Road, opposite the entrance to the Skye Camanachd Shinty Club.

The renovation and extension of West Highland College UHI – Portree has been funded by a £1.5 M capital grant from the Scottish Government, a £590K grant from the European Regional Development Fund and over £250K from the college’s own reserves.

The extension and refurbishment of the centre has allowed a wide range of facilities to be included.

The facilities include:ERDF-logo

  • Professional Training Kitchen
  • Art Studio
  • Hairdressing Training Salon
  • Construction Workshop
  • Bespoke teaching space for adults with profound and ERDF-gaelic-logocomplex needs
  • Video Conference and Smart Board facilities
  • Wi-Fi throughout
  • Various meeting rooms and IT suite
  • Learning Resource Centre


Learners from Portree, the Isle of Skye and beyond can now access a wide range of full and part-time courses, available from entry level up to degree and beyond right here in Portree at their local college campus as part of the University of the Highlands and Islands, studying without the upheaval and expense of leaving home if that is your choice.

Directions for West Highland College UHI - Portree

Take the A87 to Portree, as you drive into Portree you will pass Portree High School on your left, continue on the A87 (Dunvegan Road). Turn left at the Struan Road sign and continue up the hill passing Harbro country stores on your left. The college is the last building on the right.
