Studying in Ullapool

Studying in Ullapool

Mairi Mackay

Mairi Mackay from Drumbeg enrolled on our Access to Higher Education course after deciding on a career change midway through her working life - Being able to study from home helped make that goal possible.

“Studying by VC was certainly a new experience but I live an hour away from the Centre so being able to study from home without travelling was immensely helpful. The facilities that the college provides are vital for people like me living in rural communities.” she says.

“As a mature student, I was apprehensive about returning to the rigidity of learning, but the dedication and efficiency of both the lecturers at Fort William and the staff at my local centre soon allayed my fears.  I could pop in and see staff in Ullapool if I wanted to and my lecturers provided encouragement and guidance, which helped me to develop my learning skills. The year has flown in and, all being well, I am now going to study Nursing (Mental Health) BSc - a 3 year degree with the University of the Highlands and Islands' Department of Nursing - a much more confident student, equipped with the skills to develop my career path, thanks to West Highland College UHI.”

Whatever course you decide to study at West Highland College UHI Ullapool, you will benefit from the support of your local college centre whilst accessing the resources and technologies of a wider college and university network.

Along with the support that you will receive from local centre staff, our Student Services team which is spread across the college network, can offer advice and guidance on a wide range of matters such as funding, study support, career coaching and making best use of library resources.

If you have a disability or learning difficulty of any kind, the Extended Learning Support team can provide additional support, assistive technology and/or assistive materials as well as confidential guidance.

Please contact us or call in to the centre if you have any questions about what it is like to study with us and how we can support you.
