Gordon Bushnell

Gordon lives in the crofting township of Torrin, in south Skye.

Now retired, he was Head of Skills Development at Skye & Lochalsh Enterprise (part of the Highlands & Islands Enterprise network) for twelve years until 2003.  Prior to this he worked for ten years in government  agencies, helping to plan and arrange the delivery of training  and work programmes aimed at improving the job prospects of young people and  the unemployed.

At Skye & Lochalsh Enterprise he led a team involved in a diverse range of activities including arranging for learning providers to deliver Modern Apprenticeships; organising business, tourism and management training; helping businesses to achieve Investors in People and managing  European Social Fund projects, including a graduate placement  scheme.

Gordon was also actively involved in helping to establish an education business partnership and a local learning partnership, the latter leading to the creation of Skye & Wester Ross College, now part of West Highland College UHI.  Gordon chairs the Audit Committee.

Between 2003 and 2010, Gordon was a member of the board of Skye & Lochalsh Learning Centre Network and chaired the board of its successor, Skye & Wester Ross College.   Much progress has been made, but today, as a Vice-Chairman of West Highland College UHI, he remains committed to extending the range of opportunities available to people living in the West Highlands.

Gordon is chairman of Torrin Community Association and his other interests include gardening and local history.
