Chainsaw - Maintenance, Cross-cutting & Felling (4 Day) Certificate
What is special about this course?
This is a 4 day, integrated training and assessment course, with Lantra certificate of competence on completion.
Over the 4 days you will cover chainsaw maintenance, cross-cutting and felling of trees up to 200mm in diameter.
It is ideal for the occasional user i.e landscapers, gamekeepers, greenkeepers, farmers and those who require training to use a chainsaw on their own premises. It is a good starting point for those who have little or no experience with chainsaws.
This course is suitable for learners who are occasional users and don't intend to work in arboriculture or forestry, or to use a chainsaw as a central part of their working activity. This integrated training and assessment course is not suitable for a Professional User.
Due to the nature of the training a minimum level of fitness is required for specific operations. Whilst we do not want to disadvantage any learner it is an essential requirement. Minimum age 18 years old.
You will learn about health and safety rules and good practice. You will then move on to practical work, which will be assessed by our expert instructors.
Chainsaw maintenance is an important part of the course. You'll learn about daily checks and the sharpening of the chain. After that, there are a number of practical sessions, including basic felling techniques, how to de-limb trees, cross-cutting timber and dealing with hung-up trees up to 200mm/8ins in diameter.
You will cover -
• How to protect yourself and operate your chainsaw safely. Identify the risk assessment and emergency procedures on a worksite

• Basic maintenance, preparation and use of saws
• H&S legislation
• Safe operating techniques, how to fell trees which have a diameter up to 200mm/8” safely and accurately using appropriate techniques
