Chainsaw - Maintenance, Cross-cutting & Felling (5 Day) Certificate
What is special about this course?
This 5 day LANTRA award chainsaw course is for novice operators with little or no experience of chainsaw use, who are required to maintain and operate chainsaws for both cross cutting and felling to 380mm.
The course is designed to prepare candidates for assessment by LANTRA.
This course will contribute towards achievement of NVQ/SVQ Forestry Level 2, Unit T10.

You will learn about the maintenance and safe use of chainsaws. This will include:
- Workshop safety awareness
- Guide bar, saw chain and power unit maintenance
- Re-assembly
- Health and safety features
- Lubrication and fuelling
- Personal protective equipment
- Starting and pre-cutting checks
- Site safety awareness
- Cross-cutting and stacking timber
- Preparation (basic felling)
- Felling
- Sned conifers and/or de-limb broad-leaved trees
- De-limbing
- Takedown of hung up trees using hand tools

Fees
£850 + £280 for Assessment. The cost includes instruction, venue, course materials, use of a chainsaw, fuel and notes.
There will be a £10 per day charge for the hire of the necessary protective clothing.
LANTRA certification on successful completion of the course.
Funding
A Fee Waiver or funding of up to £200 could be available to help with payment of course fees, depending on your personal circumstances.
This support will be available for people who are 16 or over, living in Scotland and either in low paid work or actively seeking work. To be eligible, you must have income of £22,000 a year or less, or be on certain benefits.
You will also not be undertaking any secondary, further or higher education, SDS funded training or participating on the Community Jobs Scotland programme.

What can I do on completion of my course?
You could consider the NPTC assessment.
This course provides training for those employed or wishing to gain employment in the land based sector. It offers progression onto further chainsaw training that will offer enhancement within their employment or skills required to work in industry.
