The HND Digital Design and Development will give you professional knowledge in the development of interactive and digital media products. It will provide you with an up-to-date qualification within an ever-changing industry.
With digital media becoming an essential aspect of marketing and communications, having the skills in a wide area of disciplines will help you build your career.
Develop a wide range of transferable skills in a number of key disciplines including, graphic design, 2D animation, web design, application and games development, audio/video production, and programming.

Entry requirements
For year one, HNC Digital Design and Web Development:
- 1 Scottish Higher at grade C or above OR
- 1 A level at grade D or above OR
- NC Computing with Digital Media Level 6 OR
- Foundation Apprenticeship Creative and Digital Media
- Prospective students without the standard entry requirements are encouraged to apply and will be considered on an individual basis
- You may be required to attend an interview
Direct entry to year two may be possible with the HNC Digital Design and Web Development, HNC Interactive Media or equivalent.
Year 1 - HNC
Year 1 is the HNC Digital Design and Development.
Year 2 - HND
Core units include:
- Designing and developing an interactive product
- Developing digital media for an interactive media product
- Digital design and development: graded unit 2 (project)
- Human computer interface
- Interactive media composition
Optional units may include:
- Building an e-business
- Digital imaging: advanced bitmap techniques
- Emerging technologies and experiences
- Web development: producing a data driven website
- Web technologies 2: HTML, CSS and JavaScript
- Creating a showreel and portfolio

How will I study my course?
Coronavirus (COVID-19) update
Our priority is to provide a safe learning environment for all students and staff. We continue to review government guidance and will inform you of any further changes to the information provided below about your course. You will study the course through our blended learning approach. In semester one, September 2020, the theory elements will mainly be delivered online through a combination of video conference seminars, tutor-supported study and self-directed study using the university's virtual learning environment. You will also have the opportunity to do an online induction at the start of the course. On-campus activities and opportunities for campus attendance will be introduced in line with the developing Scottish Government public health measures and guidance, including social distancing, most likely in semester two (from January 2021).- Full-time

What can I do on completion of my course?
The HND Digital Design and Development has been designed to keep pace with the latest developments in industry, enabling students to learn the latest techniques using software such a Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, App Inventor, 3DS Max, and Unity.
On successful completion, you may wish to seek immediate employment in the digital media industry or progress to further study.
Can I progress into further study?
On successful completion of the HND, you may be able to progress to the third year of the BSc (Hons) Interactive Media.
