What is special about this course?
This part time qualification allows you to study IT across 3 different software, from home or work, as CPD.
The NPA provides learners with up-to-date knowledge and skills in a range of popular IT software, using Office 365. Learners will improve skills in word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software, preparing them for employment and further study.
No formal requirements, however, it is expected that candidates can demonstrate some ICT skills training at level 5. This may be through the achievement of relevant National Units or employment experience.
This NPA contains 3 SQA units covering the following subjects:
- Word Processing
You will need to have access to a device which supports the use of Office 365, and has both speaker and microphone ability.
How will I study my course?
- Part Time
Option of Flexible learning through listening to lesson recordings and accessing learning materials released weekly at a time that suits you and/or attendance of live classes.
How long will my course last?17 Weeks
January - June 2023, 8 hours per week
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through a mixture of written and practical assessment tasks, some of which may be closed book.

- From anywhere with an internet connection including your local college centre
Please note, UHI West Highland will be changing its name to UHI North, West and Hebrides in August 2023. This will not impact on your choice of course or how and where you will study.
For the January 2023 intake, the above course fee will be fully funded by the college for people ordinarily resident in Scotland.
A Fee Waiver or funding of up to £200 could be available to help with payment of course fees, depending on your personal circumstances.
This support will be available for people who are 16 or over, living in Scotland and either in low paid work or actively seeking work. To be eligible, you must have income of £22,000 a year or less, or be on certain benefits.
You will also not be undertaking any secondary, further or higher education, SDS funded training or participating on the Community Jobs Scotland programme.
Travel expenses are available if you live 2 miles or more away from the centres providing this course.
