Getting Gig Ready NQ Level 6

What is special about this course?

This online course will take you through the steps of preparing and performing your own gig. The course is entirely online which means that you can study at your own pace with weekly drop-ins to catch-up with your tutor.

With the skills built up on this course you will have the knowledge to set up your equipment, prepare, promote, and then perform a gig, either online or in front of a live audience.

 

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, however candidates need to demonstrate sufficient ability on chosen instrument to perform live.

Throughout the course students will look at how to set up equipment, rehearse and prepare a set list, promote a gig and finally perform a gig.

Content will include:

  • Sound reinforcement
  • Understanding the signal path  
  • Creative project
  • Live performance promotion in the UK music industry  

Equipment

Internet connection and a suitable device with USB microphone or audio interface and microphone to record performances with (minimum spec). You must also have your own instrument if required.   ​​​​​​

How will I be assessed?

    Students will be assessed throughout with short quizzes and assignments and a final performance assessment at the end of the course.

Where can I study my course?

    Please note, UHI West Highland will be changing its name to UHI North, West and Hebrides in August 2023, subject to Scottish Government approval. This will not impact on your choice of course or how and where you will study.

Study on this course can start at anytime throughout the year.

For this academic year (2022-23) the course fee will be £270

Funding

For this academic year (2021-22),  funding is available to cover the full course fee.

This is only for students living in Scotland (as per fee waiver).

What can I do on completion of my course?

This course provides a stepping stone to getting back to performing in public as a full or part-time musician. You can also progress from this course to our HNC or HND Music, which can lead onto the BA Applied music course.
