Food and Beverage Service SVQ2

What is special about this course?

This Level 2 SVQ is designed for anyone in full time employment, who is involved in any aspects of serving food and drink.

Entry requirements

You must be in year round full time employment and working in a food and drink service environment.

The qualification consists of 10 units, 4 of which are mandatory and the other 6 are selected by the individual candidates. It has specialist units relevant to all aspects of food and drink service, including

  • Work effectively as part of a hospitality team
  • Serve alcoholic & soft drinks
  • Receive, store and issue drinks stock
  • Serve food at the table
  • Provide a counter and takeaway service
  • Give customers a positive impression of yourself
  • Prepare & clear areas for table service
  • Prepare & serve cocktails
  • Maintain & deal with payments
  • Prepare & serve wines

The majority of the evidence for the qualification will be provided through visual observations carried out in the workplace. The candidates will also have to show that they have appropriate knowledge and understanding of their job.

How long will my course last?

12 Months

This course is completed in the work place. You may have to attend various 1 day workshops including health and safety, customer care and food hygiene. It is expected that to complete a Level 2 SVQ you will need 18 months.

We provide you an evidence portfolio and all the documentation required to help you complete the qualification.

Candidates must be in full time employment and may be able to secure funding from Skills Development Scotland, especially those between 16-19.

This qualification could help the candidate progress into a role with more responsibility. They may also be able to progress onto the Hospitality Supervision and Leadership L3 SVQ.
