Caring Careers are high on the agenda

West Highland College UHI in collaboration with Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and NHS Highland are hosting a Caring Careers Day at their Portree campus on 29th March 2022 which is open to everyone from across Highland region by either joining an online session or dropping in to the college itself.

With the advent of the new Broadford Hospital, the renovations to Portree Community Hospital and the ever-growing awareness of an increasingly exciting range of careers available within the health and care sector in Skye and Lochalsh and across the region, there has never been a better time to come and find out more.

The event presents a unique opportunity for various health and care agencies to come together and showcase the exciting, challenging and rewarding career opportunities within the healthcare sector in Highland region. There will also be plenty of advice from college staff on how to access the right qualifications locally and across all the partners in the University of the Highlands and Islands from vocational training right up to degree level study.

A variety of hosted online and drop-in sessions have been scheduled to form a day long programme.

Split into two sessions, the morning will be hosted online and open specifically to school pupils.

The afternoon session is open to the public and showcases the course offerings which West Highland College UHI and the wider university partnership can offer, the range of challenging and rewarding career opportunities at both SSSC and NHS and offers information regarding the application process.

Lori Pattinson, Workforce Planning Manager, NHS Highland, explained:

”We want to show school pupils and adults alike that there are fantastic career opportunities available to them right here in Skye and Lochalsh and across Highland region.  And even better – our partners at West Highland College UHI can help anyone access the learning they need to get started in those careers, or to get additional professional qualifications if they are already working.

We want this “Caring Careers” Day to inspire and inform school leavers and those looking for a career change to take that first steps into a career in health or care.”
