The project, entitled: “Future Rangers” recognises the creative and sustained approach that the college has taken to work closely with employers. It exemplifies the aims of the Developing the Young Workforce strategy though dynamic course co-creation on an ongoing basis with partner organisations, students and college staff.

Fiona Grant, Director of Academic Affairs said

“Being shortlisted for this award shows the importance of working in partnership with employers to deliver exactly what the land-based sustainable tourism and conservation sectors need.  Our students benefit from the highly practical experiential learning, with significantly enhanced work experience, industry certification and multiple employer engagement. Landowners benefit by gaining qualified and experienced individuals with the right ethos and understanding of the natural environment and local communities benefit from having well trained students with the right skillset to interface with the increasing home-vacation public and to care for the natural environment.

“This is great recognition of working with partners such as Nevis Landscape Partnership to drive the development of the course and who provide direct contact with other organisations. Our students could not wish for greater graduate attributes than their experience with respected organisations such as John Muir Trust and the Woodland Trust along with landowners such as Jahama Estates.  The fact that all of our learners gained successful employment at the end of last year’s course is testament to the hard work and ingenuity of the lecturers and employers in taking this unique approach to content creation. What’s more, we are replicating this impactful approach within other subject areas”

The winners will be announced at a celebration ceremony at Radisson Blu, Glasgow on Friday 25 November 2022.
