Spooky Beauty at “Elysian” - UHI West Highland’s New Training Salon in Fort William
Students are planning to celebrate Halloween at UHI West Highland by inviting staff and the public to enjoy some Halloween treats at a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party with a spooky twist.
Beauty students have researched characters and will then use each other as models to represent the tea party guests from the much-loved scene from Alice in Wonderland. They’ve been encouraged to use their own ideas to bring an element of originality to the theme.
Professional Cookery students are providing a themed cake for the celebration and staff and students from the Supported Learning Programme, the Student Services team will be helping to decorate the Café Toast and Reception areas of the college and everyone will be able to enjoy a Spooky Lunch Menu to complete the Halloween shenanigans. The Beauty Salon will be open in the afternoon for visitors to view its transformation from office to professional salon space.
The new training salon was created over the summer to answer the huge demand for places on a full time Beauty Care and Makeup course which started in September. Beauty Lecturer Alisha Turnbull commented:
“As a local beauty professional with an established local business, I am delighted to be working with enthusiastic young students who want to bring their ideas to the sector and to become qualified professionals. It means I can use my experience and knowledge of the sector to advise and guide and it’s been great fun so far.”
Beauty Lecturer Gail Jones works alongside Alisha and also commented: “We are so excited that our new Training Salon “Elysian” is soon to be available for bookings from the public. For the first few weeks, we will be taking reservations from family and friends and after Christmas will launch our booking line and appointments to the public – you can watch the students’ progress and be first to book an appointment by keeping an eye on our new Facebook Page.
