West Highland College UHI signs up to Declaration Against Racism
Critical Conversations to Critical Action: “We stand united against racism.” A landmark commitment from Scotland’s universities and colleges to support a declaration against racism.
West Highland College UHI has joined Universities and Colleges across Scotland in signing up to the Declaration Against Racism, the initiative established by Advance HE and led by the Race Project Steering Group (a predominately BAME group) of Equality Diversity and Inclusion practitioners, academics, tertiary education staff and students in Scotland.
The declaration is endorsed by the Scottish Funding Council (SFC) and Richard Lochhead, Minister for Further Education, Higher Education and Science. The initiative was launched on 14 August 2020.
The project to tackle racism on Scotland’s campuses was launched by Scottish Funding Council in response to the 2019 Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) report.
To date, it has focused on developing evidence-based resources to be used by Scotland’s universities and colleges as they respond the findings highlighted by the EHRC.
Our support for this initiative aligns with the University of the Highlands and Islands stated commitment to diversity and racism
