Blended delivery

This module offers students with no previous knowledge of Gaelic the opportunity to develop skills in speaking, reading and writing the language. By the end of the module students can expect to participate with confidence in simple conversation, and to recognise and apply the Gaelic language's distinctive spelling conventions.

The module provides a basis for progression to further study of the language.

On successful completion of the module, you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the ability to understand simple spoken Gaelic;
  • Participate in simple conversation in Gaelic and be understood, despite minor inaccuracies, by a Gaelic speaker;
  • Demonstrate accurate pronunciation;
  • Produce simple written communication which reflects the conventions of Gaelic orthography and grammar.

Entry requirements: Students should have passed 2 Highers at C or above

Mode of delivery: Blended delivery (combination of online and video conference). Video conference tutorials on Fridays, 10am to 11am.

Duration: Semester 1 only - September to December

Further study might include: Degree level study, including BA (Hons) Gaelic Scotland depending on additional qualifications and experience.
