Degree Module: Introduction to Human Resource Management

This module will introduce you to human resource management by defining the concept and evaluating its role within an organisation. You will evaluate the key functions of the human resource manager from workforce planning and recruitment and selection, induction, learning and development, motivation and reward, employment law and ending the employment relationship.

On successful completion of this module you will be able to:

  • Understand the role of the HR manager within the contemporary organisation;
  • Evaluate a range of recruitment and selection techniques within the organisational context;
  • Discuss a variety of learning and development processes, and motivation and reward strategies within the context of performance management;
  • Gain knowledge of the law as it relates to HR practice, with particular reference to discipline and grievance, and the employment relationship.

Entry requirements:

Students should have passed 2 Highers at C or above.

Mode of delivery: Face to face, Monday 1pm to 3pm

Duration: Semester 2 only - January to May

Further study might include: HNC Business/degree level study depending on additional qualifications and experience.
