Learning and Study Centres

Our commitment to excellence means that we are continuously improving our facilities.

Our custom-built library is a modern space which gives our students access to thousands of resources, including books, journals and multi-media items.

We have a culture of exploration, so that students have access to 'real life' tools and experiences, like student exchange, work study, and cutting-edge software.

But you don't need to be on our campus to access our range of learning facilities. We have made large investments in technology and off-campus facilities; many of our courses are also available in your workplace, in our Local Learning Centres in Auchtertyre, Broadford, Portree, Kinlochleven, Kilchoan, Strontian, Mallaig, Gairloch and Ullapool through video conference or online, so students can study with us no matter where they are in the world!

The College library or Learning Resources Centre (LRC) is situated on the ground floor of the Fort William Campus

It provides access to study facilities, equipment, library and learning resources to assist you in your studies at West Highland College UHI.

As you progress through your course, you will have assignments to complete and exams to sit. The LRC facilities and services can help you to prepare for these and achieve better results. Excellent IT facilities are available for students.

The LRC is open from 9am-9pm (Monday to Thursday) and 9am – 4.30pm (Friday) during term-time; and also from 10am – 3pm on the 3 Saturdays running up to exam time.

Here you can access one of our desk top computers or use your own laptop anywhere within the library.

All PCs and laptops have the standard Microsoft Office suite of software, Adobe, email and internet access.

Please remember that you must follow the College's Acceptable Use Policy when using computers and that student activity is supervised using monitoring software.
