PDA in Book Keeping

Develop your technical and administrative knowledge relevant to book-keeping and financial accounting practice.

The award consists of 3 mandatory units:

  • Recording Financial Transactions - Work with a double entry bookkeeping system to extract a trial balance and prepare a VAT return.
  • Using Financial Accounting Software - Learn the ins and outs of financial accounting software in the preparation and production of a range of accounting reports.
  • Payroll - Basic payroll calculations and procedures, and use of payroll software package to process payroll.

Starts Tuesday 29th January, evenings.

NPA Bakery

New for Fort William - teaching you how to tackle new and challenging techniques covering many aspects of bakery, including: bread-making; pastry; craft baking; cake decoration. Starts Fridays in 22nd February for 17 weeks. Course cost £270.  Funding could be available for up to £200 towards the cost of this course.

Certificate in Maritime Skills

Starting Jan 30, 3 days a week for 19 weeks

By using a combination of practical and theoretical units, this course is specifically aimed at developing skills, valued by employers in the maritime sector, at local, national and international level. It is the perfect course for anyone planning a career in the Merchant/Royal Navy, commercial sea fishing, aquaculture or leisure sailing industries.

NPA Make Up Skills

This is a brand new evening class,  suitable for the anyone who wants to learn the basic skills of make-up. You will cover Contemporary, Day and Basic Corrective Make-up and Bridal and Evening Make up.  it will be a great course to use as a stepping stone to our full time Beauty Care course too.  Monday evenings starting Monday 11th February for 20 weeks. Cost £240.

Stocks and Sauces

This course will provide a broad introduction to cooking stocks and sauces.

This unit is suitable for those starting in industry, or individuals looking to enhance particular culinary skills.  The topics covered include:

  • Prepare and cook a range of stocks
  • Prepare and cook a jus, a range of sauces and roast gravies
  • Prepare and cook extensions from a range of sauces
  • Understanding of faults and remedies that occur in cooking stocks and sauces

Starts w/c 25th February, one day a week (planned for Mondays) for 6 weeks. Course cost £80

Cold and Seasonal Food Production

This course will provide a broad introduction to preparing cold food, and creating cold food dishes, with an awareness of seasonal & local produce.

This unit is suitable for those working in industry, or individuals looking to enhance particular culinary skills.  It is ideal for those in industry working with varied service styles. The topics covered include:

  • The production of a range of foods that can be served cold.
  • Understanding of equipment and terminology, while preparing, cooking, where appropriate, and presenting a range of foods to be served cold.
  • Temperature control during preparation and also prior to and during service.
  • Understanding of working in a safe and hygienic manner

Starts 27th February, one day a week (planned for Wednesdays) for 6 weeks. Course cost £80.

Meat & Poultry

This course will provide a broad introduction to preparing and cooking meat and poultry.

This unit is suitable for those working in industry, or individuals looking to enhance particular culinary skills.  The topics covered include:

  • Identify the flesh of a range of meats, poultry and bacon
  • Understanding of acceptable and unacceptable standards of quality of meat, poultry and bacon
  • Understanding the factors which influence the retention of quality in fresh meat, poultry and use suitable techniques involving rejection and removal of unacceptable material from meats, poultry and bacon in a safe, hygienic and economic manner.

Starts 26th February, one day a week (planned for Tuesdays) for 6 weeks. Course cost £80

Pastry & Desserts

This course will provide a broad introduction to preparing and cooking pastry dishes and desserts.

This unit is suitable for those working in industry, or individuals looking to enhance particular culinary skills.  The topics covered include:

  • Preparing and producing a range of pastry and dessert items to a commercially acceptable standard using a specification
  • Develop an understanding of equipment used to prepare a range of finished pastry and dessert items
  • Develop an understanding of possible faults and appropriate remedies for a range of pastry and dessert items.

Starts 28th February, one day a week (planned for Thursdays) for 6 weeks. Course cost £80

Intro to Customer Care

This course is entirely online and will take approx. 20 hours to complete.  You or your staff can start anytime from January.  It will give an introductory level qualification in Customer Care and is a simple, hassle free way to ensure your staff are operating to a consistent standard.  Particularly suited to anyone in a customer facing role.  Course cost £40.

PDA Office Administration

Develop a wide range of skills in; technical and administrative knowledge relevant to current administrative practice, personal effectiveness, communication and presentation techniques, the current legal and regulatory requirements relating to an administration environment.

This PDA could allow you to progress to the full HNC in Office Administration carrying forward the credits you achieve.
Content includes:

  • office systems and procedures
  • legislation
  • office technologies
  • communication
  • planning and interpersonal skills

PDA Information Technology in Business

Gain the advanced IT skills and knowledge needed for a range of administrative roles within a business environment using Excel, Access, Word and PowerPoint.

  • Improve your skills and understanding of word processing and presentation packages to aid business communication
  • Develop an understanding of database management software and the application of databases to aid business decision making
  • Master spreadsheets and their use in providing solutions to business problems and to develop skills using technology in an administration role

NPA Practical Science

This is a good introductory level course for anyone who wants to go onto Higher level science, which can be a requirement to move into engineering, nursing, maritime or care sectors.

Units covered include: Essential Chemistry, Radiation and Waves and Optics, Human Biology and Forensic Science.

Thursday evenings 5pm - 9pm, starting end Jan/early Feb
