Higher National Certificates

Higher National Certificates can lead you straight into a career as they are very often in vocational subjects such as computing, cookery, business, care and childcare OR they can be a great stepping stone up to a higher qualification.  That’s because you can often choose to 'top up' an HND or HNC with extra studies at a later date, in order to convert it to a degree.

At West Highland College UHI we have the additional advantage that some of our HNC qualifications can be studied using our online web technologies – networked with other students - to allow you to study from any of our 10 college centres.

Introducing… HNC Computing (starting in 2018)

This course has been designed to meet the needs of small to medium sized IT and computing related companies across Scotland and the UK.  It provides a broad base of all aspects of computing and IT.

It’s based in Fort William and will help you to develop, implement and evaluate modern aspects of working with current technologies, developing mobile applications, dynamic websites and building and maintaining servers.  It will also help you develop learning strategies in software development which will provide you with a comprehensive foundation for your future career.
