Chris Mackie

Lecturer – BA(hons) Adventure Tourism Management and MSc Ecotourism, Fort William.

I have a varied background in fine art and outdoor learning, both rooted in a love for the landscape and people of the Highlands. Having grown up in two hubs of the Scottish outdoor world, Lochaber and Strathspey, I have been involved in mountain-biking, snowsports and hill-running from a young age and have more recently discovered the wonders of sea-kayaking and surfing. Travelling and living both overseas and in various parts of the Highlands has enabled me to share these passions with other people through coaching, photography and writing.

In addition to my work at West Highland College, I deliver outdoor learning for young people with complex social and emotional needs in a community-owned woodland, and contribute to research into learning outside the classroom and learning for sustainability.
