Ed Niland

Ed hails from Offaly in Ireland and holds a Master’s of Science in Sport Performance (University of Limerick, Ireland), a Bachelor’s of Science in Sport & Exercise Science (University of Limerick, Ireland), as well as an Ordinary Degree in Business Administration (Waterford Institute of Technology, Ireland).

Experienced Sport Scientist with extensive knowledge of sport development, across multiple sports & developmental levels, including children, disability inclusion, talent identification, coach & athlete development, as well as strength and conditioning. He has a research interest in applied Sport psychology, strength & conditioning & Coach Education for Endurance sports, specifically Orienteering and generally Running of any type.

He is also a qualified Fitness Instructor (NCEHS, Ireland), Neuromuscular Physical Therapist (ANMPT Registered), Qualified Coach Educator with Coaching Ireland, and working to complete my UKSCA & BASES certification, among other professional qualifications.

A regular Orienteer, Mountain Runner and Mountain Biker, he has also been an active coach in a number and varied sports over the years from Orienteering, Athletics (Mountain Running & Disability Athletics), Mountain Biking & Wheelchair Basketball. Presently a member of Badenoch and Strathspey Orienteering club, Lochaber Athletics club & West Highlands Wheelers Cycling club. He is actively involved in the development of Orienteering in the West Highlands around Fort William as well as on Skye.

At present he is delivering Strength & Conditioning for Marine Harvest Premiership team, Fort William Shinty Club.
