José Navarro

José Navarro.jpgOriginally from Spain, José moved to the UK 20 years ago and developed a freelance portfolio that includes teaching in FE and HE as well as experience as photographer, researcher and editor in adventure travel publishing.

José has travelled in remote environments such as Iceland, Alaska, Lapland and Guyana, where he was expedition photographer for Raleigh International. Jose is a qualified International Mountain Leader and has led treks and trips in Iceland, Picos de Europa and Pyrenees. He has also worked for Outlook Expeditions in the mountains of Corsica. José won a Millennium Commission Award for a photography & cycling project in Mali and a Wilderness Award for a cycling expedition across the Andes and the Bolivian Altiplano.

José holds a MA in Documentary Photography and a Postgraduate Certificate in Environmental Anthropology. He has worked on ethnographic projects and also on commission for the international development charity Tree Aid. Jose’s area of academic interest are phenomenology and the anthropology of perception. Jose believes in direct experiential learning and exploratory ways to gain new knowledge and skills.
