BA (Hons) Adventure Tourism management

"I grew up in a small town called Doune close to the Loch Lomond and Trossachs national park. I have been riding and racing Downhill MTB for 5 years. As well as MTB being my hobby and main sport, I also enjoy climbing, hill walking and a multitude of other sports.

I decided to study at WHC UHI because I always loved being in the outdoors and wanted to prepare myself for a career in the outdoor industry rather than studying something which would lead to an office job. After consideration I decided what better a place than Fort William to be studying about the outdoors!

The course has been very interesting and has opened my eyes to just how much you actually have to know about the outdoor industry to really be a part of it. It’s not all fun and games, you do have to work but it’s worth it when you have that one day of sunshine and you can go out and do the sports you love in the best looking place on this small island we call home.

In the future I hope to go out and see the world a bit while working in the outdoor industry with my first intended stop being Canada. The course is allowing me to gain qualifications that will mean I am able to go out and work as an instructor in the outdoors as well as have the skills to manage as I progress.”
